It would seem, what could be surprising about such an object as a wooden table? The standard construction is a solid wood table top plus timber supports. The only differences are in the form and decor options. But it turns out that in this case there is also room for a flight of imagination..
When nature helps a designer
The concept of “solid wood furniture” often does not correspond to the very meaning of the word “solid wood” – now there is no mass production of countertops or facades from a single piece of wood. Of course, there is such furniture, but it is expensive. Therefore, furniture made from furniture board usually falls into this category. Even bent legs of tables and chairs can be made from laminated veneer lumber, and not turned from a straight one. But this all applies to typical furniture, when one model in the series completely repeats another, differing only in the lines of the textured pattern.
And there are also exclusive products when each table is unique. And all this thanks to the natural artistic form, which the designer only organized in space..
As, for example, this sample of a table, the tabletop of which is made of a cross-cut of a giant tree, and the support is made of powerful driftwood.
And this table is almost entirely made from a single piece of wood. The longitudinal cut of the trunk at the base, with part of the root processes, serves as both a tabletop and part of a support. There is only one part “correct” in shape – a small frame, which allows the structure to remain stable..
Unedged board
Any specialist who works with wood will tell you that unedged boards are not used in furniture production. But not for exclusive handmade tables.
In this case, only the table top is made of it. Even such inconsistency with the standard as a curved trunk serves the author’s idea – after all, the support has a complex curvilinear shape.
And the next copy of the coffee table even has a base made of massive unedged board.
When waste comes into play
Even off-grade wood, a creative person will find how to use.
For example, such cut layers of a fire-burnt trunk, laid in a frame on stone chips, somewhat resemble a view of the canyon from an airplane. Compare these two photos.
And this tabletop is made of “sick” wood. The affected areas of the boards are neatly embroidered into healthy wood, and the grooves are filled with a composition of fluorescent paint and varnish. The table glows in the dark and it is impossible to “miss”.
Another version of this technology, but only two boards with wane serve as a basis towards each other. The wane relief of each element is, as it were, mirrored, and a luminous bluish composition is applied in a recess along the bark and covered with glass. The whole composition creates the illusion of a river view.
Wood and glass
Glass furniture elements visually facilitate the perception of the interior. This fully applies to the glass tabletop..
For example, in this specimen, glass allows you to highlight the original interweaving of branches holding the wooden frame of the tabletop..
And such a coffee table in the form of a tree branch is the creation of human hands. This is precisely the technology of laminated veneer lumber, which makes it possible to repeat any curvilinear shape in wood..
Urban theme
Another “hybrid” of glass and glued wood. The frame of the table top is made up of a variety of bars. Each of them has the same cube-shaped base, but differs from the “neighbor” in color and carved part. Visually, the table resembles an inverted city on the shores of a large square lake.
And this table, without any illusions, has a real model of a city quarter as an “inner filling” of a curved tabletop.
Wildlife theme
You can even plant a lawn on the “home” table. More precisely, a small strip of grass. And what kind of lawn it will be, Moorish or classic, the owner of the table will decide.
And the “street” table is all the more suitable for such purposes. In general, you can practice landscape design on it – plant different types of herbs and organize a man-made stream.
