Even ordinary, cold, glazing allows you to use the balcony for its intended purpose, regardless of the weather, from early spring to late autumn. And the installation of warm window systems, insulation and the device of “local” heating with heaters or warm floors turn the balcony into a full-fledged living space.
French balcony – outside view
Modern projects, especially for the southern regions, may initially provide for continuous facade glazing with closed terraces on each floor. The large area of such a balcony allows the placement of a full-fledged recreation area with decorative green spaces, a dining group and upholstered furniture for relaxation.
And this is a more modest version of cold glazing of the balcony “from the developer”. The panoramic system with a sliding mechanism for opening the upper part cannot be called “warm”, so here you can only arrange a small area with “country furniture” where you can have a cup of coffee and admire the surrounding landscape.
Quite a few apartment owners go to redevelop a standard project. This is a troublesome and costly business, but it gives an excellent result. In the photo below you can see an example of such an initiative – a French balcony with an area of at least 8 m2 instead of a forged fence across the door block without a platform.
Recreation area of the insulated balcony
Insulation and multi-chamber window profiles of the glazed balcony expand the functionality of the balcony – here you can already put normal, not country furniture. But the most common arrangement option remains a kind of recreation area “living room on the balcony”.
For example, here is such a modern version of a living room with green spaces, a bar counter and a reading corner.
If desired, here you can make a relaxation corner in the winter garden or a “fireplace room”.
Moreover, if you choose a model not on biofuel, but an electric fireplace, then its power will be enough to heat an area up to 8 m2.
Despite the small area, there are no style restrictions in the choice of design solutions for the “living room on the balcony”. The main color is set by decoration, furniture and accessories:
- classic interior in light beige;
- modern “reading” of the baroque with natural stone wall cladding, wooden arcades and wrought-iron lamps;
- traditional style with rounded furniture shapes and stone-like finishes;
- Mediterranean style with a small palm tree, a hanging wicker chair, Arab pillows, figurines of graceful dona and temperamental hidalgo;
- eco-style dominated by the colors of “living” nature – green and brown;
- country music with wooden furniture and blinds, a wicker chair, vegetation in “seedling” boxes and jars:
- modernism with contrasting colors of streamlined countertops and bar stools.
Cabinet on the balcony
Quite often, an office or home office is arranged on the balcony, although good insulation is required. Moreover, a lot of space is not required for several shelves, a small table and a work chair.
It can be a “corner” for a student or a novice artist, a table for a “traveler” on the Internet or a lover of home handicrafts.
Arrangement of a berth on the balcony is much less common. Still, most regions of our country have a harsh climate, and it is only in difficult living conditions to occupy most of the balcony with a bulky sofa or bed. The simplest option is a small couch that can fit either a teenager or a small person..
Hookah lovers can equip the lounge area in oriental style.
Admirers of a home sauna in a city apartment can arrange a “dry bath” on the balcony – no water supply and sewerage are needed for it.
And the “proximity” of fresh air and ease of natural ventilation create good conditions for installing a simulator or converting a balcony into a small gym..
