Siding facade decoration combines two important functions – reliable protection of the wall structure and a beautiful exterior of the building. Knowing the features and rules for installing siding, you can update the facade of the house with your own hands, get the effect of expensive finishing with natural material or paint it in any color.

Material consumption

To obtain a beautiful facade with fewer panel joints, you first need to decide on the size of the wall panel. They are produced 2.5–4 m long, 0.2–0.3 m wide. It depends on the manufacturer. According to the dimensions of the selected panel, the appropriate components are selected.

For convenience and a more accurate calculation, you can draw the layout of vinyl siding panels and additional parts to scale. And the drawing of the lathing will help to accurately determine the size and number of parts of the subframe. You can calculate the area of ​​the wall surface covered with siding (S1) and the area of ​​the selected one panel (S2), S1 / S2 + 10% = n – the number of required wall panels. Add 10% to account for fit.

The number of additional elements (base / plinth outflow, external and internal corners, slope strips, starting plate, etc.) is calculated by determining the installation length of one or another component (L1) and the length of one element (L2), L1 / L2 = n is the number elements. Here, too, you need to add at least 5% to fit..

For fastening the lathing, the number of screws and dowels is taken for 40 cm of the length of the lathing 1 screw. For panels, nails are calculated based on the condition 1 nail per 30 cm of the panel. When installing siding with simultaneous wall insulation, the amount of insulation is determined by the same formula as wall panels.

Important! Fasteners (nails, screws) must be resistant to corrosion. These are aluminum or galvanized fasteners. The nail is used with a wide head (at least 10 mm with a diameter of 3 mm). For the strength of the siding structure, the length of the nail leg is taken taking into account the required pinching depth in the crate (25-30 mm).

Surface preparation

The quality of installation directly depends on the preparation of the walls, which must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt. Next, you need to remove the parts attached to the wall or in contact with it (platbands, drainpipes, decorative elements, window sills, etc.). All parts of the walls that have become unusable must be replaced or repaired.

Installation of the lathing frame

For the installation of siding panels, both metal and wooden frames are used. Due to the high cost of the metal base, it is recommended to use it for heavy wall panels (cement, basement siding). In private low-rise housing construction, wooden beams are used. Its section depends on the severity of the wall panel and the type of siding installation (with or without insulation).

Option for installing siding without wall insulation

For the ventilated facade of the building with the installation of vinyl siding, a wooden crate with a section of 50×50 or 60×40 is used. All wooden parts must be dried before starting work (humidity 15–20%) and thoroughly treated with antiseptics.

The installation of the battens begins with attaching the corner beams, which are vertically aligned using a plumb line and level. They are installed on each side of the corner. Further, the frames of the upper border of the pediment, windows, doors or other wall openings are mounted.

To maintain a flat surface for attaching siding, twine is pulled between the corner elements of the crate. The outer part of the spacers should touch the string. The distance between the slats is taken as 30–40 mm. This timber frame is for horizontal siding installation. For vertical laying, the timber is laid horizontally.

Option for installing siding with wall insulation

In the case of installing siding with simultaneous wall insulation, the height of the frame beam is selected according to the required insulation height. On the wall with a step of the lathing, slats are attached to form an air gap between the wall and the vapor barrier. Then a vapor barrier (moisture and windproof membrane) is attached to these slats. Next, the siding base frame is mounted. Insulation of the required thickness is laid between the timber.

The width of the insulation should be 2 cm more than the gap between the bars to create space. Most often, a mineral plate is used as a heater. Its thickness should be less than the height of the timber (if the timber for the lathing was bought equal in thickness to the insulation, then an additional counter-lattice must be made). On the outside, a moisture-windproof membrane is again laid on the insulation, which is fixed with distance bars. It is very important that the insulation is intact. It is necessary to seal all places where moisture can penetrate to the insulation with a sealant. All planks and beams are attached to each other.

Important! The construction of siding installation with simultaneous insulation increases the load on the wall. If there is no margin of safety for the foundation, then it is necessary to check its bearing capacity.

Installing siding panels

When the line for the beginning of the installation of siding panels is determined, a nail is driven into the corner beam of the frame just above this level (4 cm) from one and the other side of the wall. Next, you need to pull the string to the nails, along which draw a line with chalk. This is done around the entire perimeter of the building..

The starting plank is set with the top along the line and nailed down. It is necessary to adjust the horizontal position of the starting profile relative to the wall. To take into account the possibility of expansion of vinyl parts due to heating, a gap of 6-12 mm is left when joining the starter bars.

If ebb tides are provided, then they are first installed, and then the starting bar is mounted.

It is very important to properly attach the starter strip to the wall. The nail is driven strictly perpendicular to the wall surface and not tightly.

Next, it is necessary to set the external and internal corners along a plumb line or level strictly vertically below the starting bar (4–6 mm). A gap of 1–3 mm is also left on top for installing the soffit. Nails are first driven into the upper corner holes from both sides. After making sure that the mounting element is vertical, it is attached to the walls with a step of 20-40 cm.

If it is necessary to connect the corner profiles to each other, cut off 25 mm from the perforated edge from above. Then the upper corner piece is superimposed on the lower one. 9mm gap required to compensate for expansion.

The next stage of siding installation is to install the framing of openings in the walls (window, door). First, the lower and upper frame parts are installed, and only then the side.

After finishing the installation of all components, you can proceed with the installation of the panels. Installation starts from the bottom. The panel is inserted into the groove of the starting strip, the upper edge is nailed in the middle to the wall, and then the entire panel is fixed from the middle to the edges. The temperature gap is 6-10 mm.

If it is necessary to connect panels horizontally, a connecting strip is used.

It is possible to overlap siding panels without a joint strip. In this case, the coincidence of the joining seams should be less than 4 rows in a row.

The installation of siding panels should begin with the rear facade and finish with the main one. Before installing the last row, you must first mount the finishing profile. The last panel engages with the previous one and snaps into place by pushing it against the finish bar.

Installation of siding under the window involves cutting the wall panels. To do this, you need to attach a panel to the window and measure the depth and width of the cutout. It is important not to forget to take into account the 6 mm temperature gap. Next, the wall panel is inserted into the near-window profile.

It is necessary to mount the soffit by inserting it into the J-profiles or into the inner corner and J-profile. The size of the soffit is determined by the distance between the profiles, taking into account the temperature gap.

At the corners the soffits are cut at an angle of 45 °, at the points of their connection 2 J-profiles are installed.
