Care of ceramic tiles

This article provides detailed instructions on how to properly care for ceramic tiles. Tiles should be wiped down regularly with a mild detergent; extra grime can be removed with a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner. To protect the tiles, all spills should be quickly wiped up with a paper towel. Grout between tiles should be cleaned weekly with a sponge and water; a professional sealant can also be applied to the grout to protect against spills and staining. To keep the tiles looking their best, monthly deep cleanings with special tile cleaners can be used. Ceramic tiles are a long-lasting and durable building material, and with proper care, they will retain their original beauty for years to come.

The durability of the lined surface depends largely on how it is used and how it is looked after. For routine cleaning of ceramic tiles, use appropriate detergents. Strong and aggressive acid-based detergents should be avoided โ€“ they destroy not so much ceramic tiles as they can damage joints sealed with cement-based materials.

It should be remembered that only joints sealed with epoxy materials (sealants) have excellent resistance to chemical attack. When cleaning ceramic surfaces, you should also limit the use of abrasive products (for example, metal brushes) as much as possible, especially if the ceramic tiles have a glossy surface on which chips, scratches, etc. are conspicuous. Better to use a vacuum cleaner, a natural soft bristle brush, or a clean rag.

Some types of dirt (sand, dust, powder) significantly accelerate the abrasion of ceramic tile floors. Therefore, you need to try to keep the floor clean and prevent the presence of these substances: they are brought from the street, therefore, a rug should be laid in front of the entrance. Ceramic floors are not shock-resistant, so they must be protected from impacts from heavy objects. Glazed ceramic tiles can be effectively washed with a soapy emulsion, avoiding the use of powders and pastes. To protect unglazed ceramic tiles (ceramic granite, clinker), a special liquid should be used to prevent stains on their surface and at the seams. Special attention should be paid to products with a notch, polished and non-slip.

Light solid colors, especially in the polished version, despite their excellent cleanability from a hygienic point of view, are not very resistant to certain types of stains, therefore, it must be remembered that they need more care. There are general criteria and rules for the care of unglazed ceramic tiles, depending on the type of stains (stains), which are shown in Table 1. However, manufacturers always advise trying the detergent first on a small inconspicuous part before using it on the entire surface..
