How to glue ceiling wallpaper

This WordPress post provides comprehensive instructions on how to glue ceiling wallpaper, making it easy for anyone to achieve a professional, flawless look. It sets out all the tools and materials needed for the task, as well as tips on wall preparation, wallpapering, cutting wallpaper, and application of the glue. Additionally, it explains how to check for air pockets and how to finish the job without creases. With these steps, wallpapering the ceiling can be completed quickly and effectively.

Glue is applied to ceiling wallpaper in the same way as to wallpaper glued to the walls. Cut the canvases to the required length and stack them on the table with the wrong side up.

Application of glue and laying in “accordion”

The paste is thickly applied with a wide brush, first to the middle of the panel, then gently spread over the entire surface.
The paste layer on the ceiling wallpaper must be even. Additional application is always quite problematic..
The cloth smeared with paste is carefully folded. Starting from the front side, folds are made approximately 30 cm deep so that one layer of glue contacts the other. The resulting “accordion” ends in a strip 30 cm wide, too. From it you will begin to glue the canvas to the ceiling, gradually expanding the “accordion”.

The canvas folded in this way is left for a few minutes, so that the paste is absorbed into the paper and it becomes more pliable (during this time, you can apply the paste to three or four more canvases). However, make sure that the paper does not become too soft, otherwise it will tear easily..

1. The diluted paste is thickly applied to the middle of the canvas.

2. From the middle of the web, the paste is distributed to one of the edges.

3. The paste is applied in the same way to the other edge of the canvas.

4. Make folds 30 cm deep so that one layer of glue touches the other.

5. Thus, fold the entire canvas into an “accordion”.

6. This way a long blade turns into a bunch that is comfortable to hold in your hand.

Pasting

Make sure you have a pair of scissors, a seam roller, and a wallpaper brush on hand before you climb onto the platform. They will be needed to glue the canvas to the ceiling and carefully smooth it.

Wallpaper softened with glue becomes very “sensitive” and can tear easily. To avoid unpleasant surprises and better manage the “accordion”, use any auxiliary means. It can be a broom wrapped in plastic wrap, or a cardboard roller, for example, from under a roll of packaging foil, or, finally, a noticeably lighter roll of wallpaper, from which several canvases have already been cut. Then with one hand they hold the roller and the “accordion” of the wallpaper, while with the other they carefully apply the upper section of the canvas to the ceiling, focusing on the reference line. Then this piece of wallpaper is pressed tightly and smoothed with a brush from the middle to the edges..

In the future, they act in the same way, that is, straighten the folds of the “accordion” and apply one section after another to the ceiling, press firmly and smooth it with a brush. At the same time, make sure that the edge of the web exactly coincides with the reference line. This is the only way to be sure that all other canvases will lie absolutely straight, that is, parallel to the drawn line.

It’s good if your work clothes have a lot of pockets. Then the scissors and seam roller are always with you..

The glued fabric loses its elasticity and therefore can easily break. To prevent this from happening, create a support for the folded “accordion” canvas.

Open the accordion folds, gradually smoothing the wallpaper from the middle to the edges, avoid the formation of wrinkles and bubbles.

It is more convenient for right-handers to hold folded wallpaper in their right hand, and to smooth the canvas with the left – it is easier to hold the “accordion” at the ceiling and move along the way.

Attach the edge of the web to the reference line, straighten, press with your hand or brush and smooth.

The second canvas is laid along the edge of the first. Make sure that the seam is clean and the canvases fit close to each other.

Near the wall

The edge of the canvas is pressed with the blunt side of the scissors into the corner, so that the cutting line is outlined.

Neat docking with the wall is achieved as follows: the blunt side of the scissors is drawn along the angle between the wall and the ceiling. Then the canvas is slightly retracted and cut off at a clearly visible break. The cutting line in this case will be straight..

In the place where the chandelier is suspended, a cross-shaped incision is made so that the wallpaper does not wrinkle.

There is no need for accuracy to the millimeter, since later the cap covering the fixing of the chandelier to the ceiling will also cover the cut in the wallpaper.

In the place where the ledge passes, cut the edge of the wallpaper so that it can be glued further without tension.

Could you provide some tips or a step-by-step guide on how to effectively glue ceiling wallpaper? I’m interested in doing it myself, but I’m not sure where to start. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
