Features of installing interior doors

Installing interior doors can be a great way to improve both the look and feel of a home. Interior doors offer many features that make them an ideal choice for any home. With features such as increased insulation, noise reduction, improved fire safety, and ease of use, interior doors can be a great way to improve the appearance and functionality of any room. In addition, they can also offer a range of customizable choices, such as style, finish, and hardware. With interior doors, there are plenty of attractive options to suit any home décor.

Features of installing interior doors

If you have not bought this interior element yet, then remember that the size of the door together with the door frame should be 3-6 centimeters less than the opening itself. Thus, you will provide the necessary margin, which is required to accurately position the door. If a suitable interior door has already been purchased, then you can proceed with the installation!

First of all, carefully unpack it and “scan” it for damage. No damage found? Fine! Start with the hinge notches. Place the door leaf on a stand and measure 20 centimeters from the top and bottom of the door. Make notes. Attach a loop to the edge of one of the marks and trace around it with a pencil. Do the same on the other side..

Using the marks, carefully make holes for the hinges with a hammer and chisel. Then paint the open surface with varnish to prevent moisture penetration into the wood. Make sure that the hinges fit perfectly into the grooves you made, and with the hinges on the door, drill the holes where the screws will be. Do not attach the hinges yet, we will do this later..

Since most manufacturers of interior doors do not insert a lock, let’s get started installing it.!

So, the first thing to do is mark the future notch for the depth and width of the lock. Usually the lock is placed at a distance of 90 centimeters from the bottom edge of the door leaf. Important! The castle doesn’t have to be big. If the depth of the recess is more than 1/3 of the door post bar, this can lead to its deformation, and this case is not provided for by the guarantee!

When the markings are ready, start milling the lock recess. Do not forget that the wood must not absorb moisture, therefore any hole in the door leaf must be varnished.

If the varnish in the lock recess is already dry, continue installing the lock. To begin with, you need to drill holes for the handle and other elements, such as shut-off valves. To do this, mark the holes for the holes: attach the lock on top and use it as a stencil. Now drill the holes and install the lock, securing it with screws.

In the next step, make a notch for the hinges on the door frame. Start off from the grooves in the door leaf. So, attach the vertical post to the door leaf in such a way that the distance between the horizontal bar and the door leaf is 2-3 millimeters. This is necessary so that in the future the upper part of the door leaf does not cling to the horizontal crossbar of the door frame.

Now we mark the hinge attachment point on the vertical rack in accordance with the hinge attachment point on the door leaf and make recesses, as we did on the door itself. Try on the hinges and drill holes for the screws, but do not screw in the screws yet.!

While the varnish dries, start installing the door frame. It is supplied unassembled and must be assembled. The door frame consists of a horizontal bar and two uprights. So, the horizontal crossbar corresponds to the width of the door leaf, in contrast to the racks, which are larger than the door, so measure the required length of the vertical racks in accordance with the doorway. Then saw them off with a miter box to the desired size.

When assembling the box, you will need screws. They are screwed into the corner joint of the box for a secure fit.

To install the door frame in the doorway, prepare wedges and four spacers. The spacers should be bars with a thickness of 40 * 40mm along the length of the same size as the length of the working area of the horizontal crossbar (they are needed in order to expand the door frame racks between themselves). It is advisable to make wedges and spacers from the same material from which the door is made..

You can start installing the box. Insert the assembled box into the opening and unlock it with wedges. From above, the wedges should be located at the junction of the vertical post with the horizontal crossbar. To insert the wedges from below, we need a spacer, it will not let the strut parts go away. When the box is already holding on its own, align its horizontal and vertical using a level.

Now, into each upright, screw in two long, thick screws with dowels that will go through the upright and dig into the wall. On the vertical, on which the door will be held, the screws will hide under the hinges, and on the one where there are no hinges, the screws will be closed with special decorative plugs or caps. The holes for the hinge screws, which we have previously made, will help you not to get the large long screw into the places where the hinges will be attached. Now it’s time to install the hinges themselves. To do this, use screws.

The hinges are attached to the door frame, but not yet attached to the door itself. It would seem that you can attach hinges both on the door frame and on the door leaf, and then simply hang the door. But this method is not always suitable. Sometimes it is not possible to lift the door up due to obstacles from above. Therefore, here it is better to go the other way. First, carefully place the door leaf against the door frame so that the hinges can be attached to the door, and then screw in the screws.

Install two additional spacers so that all spacers are equidistant from each other. See how the door closes. If, in a slightly open state, the door itself tends to open or close, re-measure the position of the box with a level until you get the most ideal result.

Now, if the doors open and close easily, blow an even layer of foam around the space between the door frame and the wall and leave it for 24 hours. Please note that foam tends to increase several times.!

The last stage is the installation of platbands. First, trim off any excess foam. Then, having previously measured and sawed down the trims at an angle of 45 degrees, nail them with finishing studs to the door frame.

If your door has a threshold, then it contains instructions for installing it.

That’s it, the door is installed! You can safely use!
