Correct lighting of each room is a very important part of creating a comfortable environment for all residents of a house and apartment. However, very often the owners make mistakes and then it turns out that there is not enough light, a lot, it is annoying … Our tips site has selected the most common mistakes when choosing lighting.
The first mistake is to make the lighting flat
Often, the owners equip only ceiling lights – just one chandelier or rows of spotlights around the perimeter of the ceiling. This is clearly not enough! As a result, you will have a lot of light above your head, but not enough in certain functional areas. In addition, there is often no need to turn on the entire ceiling light. A chamber, cozy atmosphere will be created by floor lamps, table lamps, sconces in a precisely defined place where you like to read, work on documents or settle down with a tablet.
Mistake two – forget about lighting the working area in the kitchen
It so happens that the light in the kitchen is actively striking the floor, and not on the countertop, where it is especially needed. The portal wrote in detail how to make LED illumination of the working kitchen area under the cabinets. This is a very handy option! Such directional lighting will allow you to cook comfortably in the dark and also looks attractive. And if you have an island in your kitchen, then there should also be a directional light above it, use pendant ceiling lamps.
Error three – not installing dimmers
This means depriving yourself of the opportunity to adjust the brightness of the lighting. For example, at dusk, when it is not completely dark outside the window, you do not need too bright light. Dimmers help to adjust the lighting as comfortable as possible, according to the time of day and what is happening in the room.
Mistake four – incorrectly falling shadows
This error is most visible in the example of mirrors – in the bathroom, in the hallway, on the dressing table. If the light falls on this area exclusively from above, your reflection will have deep shadows under your eyes, chin. Normally, the hostess cannot do makeup. It is much more convenient, as practice shows, to illuminate the mirror on both sides, evenly. Just two wall lights on the same level and the shadow problem will be solved.
Fifth mistake – choosing the wrong size lamp
A huge chandelier in a relatively small room or a modest floor lamp in a spacious living room will create a disproportion and turn out to be an inappropriate detail. Do not forget that in the showroom the lamps seem to be larger. At home, take measurements in advance, decide which lamp is right for you, and stick to this plan.
Mistake six – neglect the lighting of an interesting texture
For example, suppose you have a beautiful accent brick wall in your room. Or faux stone trim around the TV panel. Directed light will emphasize this texture, it will sparkle with new colors. Otherwise, it turns out that you tried in vain, creating such an interesting wall decoration.
Mistake seventh – placing the lamps too high or low
This applies primarily to lamps and chandeliers that are located above the dining table, kitchen island or bar counter. It’s good if the length of the cord can then be adjusted so that the lamp does not hang over your head, but at the same time it illuminates exactly the desired area, emphasizing its functionality and highlighting it from the rest of the room.
Important! Never forget to save energy! Always choose energy saving bulbs, including LED ones. First, let you pay more, but save a lot in the process of using the lighting system.
