September

Overall, September deserves to be featured in a separate article. The hassle of land owners this month is not much less than in August. And in the first weeks of September, if the weather is fine, even more. Let’s figure out what urgently needs to be done in September in the beds, flower beds and in the garden:

1. In the flower beds, autumn flowers are still actively blooming, which, if necessary, need to be watered. But already faded plants should be removed, collect the seeds of annuals, dig up the bulbs of perennial flowers. Indoor flowers that you exhibited or planted on the street, it is time to bring into the house by mid-September, because the changes in day and night temperatures are already seriously noticeable;

2. In September, it’s time to start harvesting most of the grape varieties. Only a few late species remain on the branches until October. Some owners believe that the most delicious wine is obtained from slightly frozen grapes. But it is better not to delay the harvesting of ripe brushes – if the wasps began to actively eat the grapes, then it’s sweet, it’s time to remove it from the branches;
3. In the garden, now is the time to feed the fruit trees that have already been harvested. Potassium phosphate fertilizers will help them strengthen the root system and prepare for winter. It will not be superfluous to mulch the trunks;
4. In addition, plums and late varieties of apples are being harvested in the garden. You can make adjika and tkemali, pickled apples and other blanks from the last harvest;

5. Especially a lot of work in September in the beds. Housewives are engaged in canning the last in this season cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers … The tops of already fruiting plants are pulled out and disposed of, best of all with the help of a grinder or in a compost heap, if there are no signs of any diseases. You can just throw it away or burn it, but according to the rules;
6. By the way, do not despair if some of the tomatoes did not have time to ripen, but remained green. There are many recipes with just such tomatoes;

7. The harvesting of potatoes ends in September, carrots, beets, turnips are dug out, if they were not harvested at the end of August. All this wealth is carefully laid in the cellar after preliminary drying and sorting;
8. The beginning of September is the time for melons. Pumpkins also ripen, which will be removed a little later. By the way, under the pumpkins, as under the melons and watermelons, you can put a stone, brick, board to avoid contact with the ground and possible rotting;

9. At the end of September, before the first frost, winter garlic should be planted. Towards winter, at this time, some plant onion sets, and also prepare beds for winter plantings of carrots, radishes, beets, and other cold-resistant crops;
10. The lawn in September still needs mowing, sometimes watering if the weather is dry. In addition, before the frost, the lawn will not be superfluous to feed;
11. In the southern regions, September is a good time to plant fruit trees and shrubs. They will strengthen before frost. In more severe regions, it is better to postpone planting perennials until spring;
12. After everything has been removed from the beds, many owners start loosening, digging or plowing the soil. Proponents of organic farming often refuse to dig, believing that it is impossible to interfere with nature so rudely. It’s up to you to decide this issue yourself, but it’s still better to put things in order in the beds after harvesting the tops, at least removing the remaining weeds and debris.

October

In the middle of autumn, harvesting ends and full preparation for the winter period begins:

1. It’s time to devote time to artificial reservoirs, if there are any on the site. We drain the water from the outdoor pool, carry out cleaning, bring all the available equipment into the garage or shed. Water plants from the mini-pond can be moved into special containers and find a place for them in the house. Experts are sure that outdoor pools and other artificial reservoirs cannot be left completely without water for the winter. But you need to clean and cover from debris;

2. In between the lingering autumn rains, the trees should be whitewashed; we wrote in detail about the benefits of this technique;
3. When foliage begins to fly around, you can start trimming old branches, clean tree trunks from dead bark. Young trees need to be additionally protected from frost and pests, such as hares, by tying the trunks with covering material or spruce branches. They also cover young shoots of grapes, ornamental shrubs, roses;

4. In addition, in the garden, the collection of late varieties of apples ends, in the southern regions – quince, which ripens later than all other fruits;
5. On the beds, late white cabbage is being harvested; at the beginning of the month, the remains of cauliflower should be removed, pumpkins should be brought into the cellar;
6. Didn’t have time to plant winter garlic and other crops in winter – be sure to do it by mid-October. The same applies to planting seedlings of fruit trees – later they will already fall into the risk zone and may freeze;
7. In October, zealous owners try to bring order to the site to the maximum, so that then in the spring there will be less work. Falling leaves are the most troublesome. We advise you to store the leaves in compost heaps, use them as mulch or covering material, simply remove them from the site. It is worth burning autumn foliage only in extreme cases, when there are no other options left or it is infected with parasites, diseases;

8. Do not forget to prepare greenhouses for winter, clean them.

November

In anticipation of the beginning of winter, the land owners are in a hurry to complete all the work in order to enjoy a well-deserved rest. In the last month of autumn, there is much less work in the garden and garden, frosts are not uncommon, as are the first snowfalls. But there is a little more to do:

1. If you did not have time to cut, whitewash the trees, we urgently start these works;
2. We continue to fight falling leaves, throwing them into compost heaps or using them as mulch to protect, for example, beds with sorrel, parsley, and other perennial plants;

3. It’s time to tidy up all of your gardening tools that you won’t need until spring for the most part. We wipe it thoroughly and carefully store it in storage;
4. We remove the irrigation system from the site, free the barrels and other containers, twist the hoses;
5. In November, you can prepare the soil in advance for the spring planting of seeds for seedlings;
6. We finish with the preparation of perennials for winter, we cover all plants that are afraid of frost.

As for the lunar calendar, in September this year the New Moon will be on the 9th, and the Full Moon on the 25th. In October, the New Moon is also on the 9th, the Full Moon is on 24. In November, the new Moon will appear on the 7th, and wait for the Full Moon on the 23rd..
