In terms of their popularity, metal stairs come after wooden stairs, taking a well-deserved second place. Metal stairs are traditionally used as industrial or outdoor, but today they are increasingly used as indoor home stairs.

Metal elements are often the basis for wooden or concrete stairs. As a result, combined stairs are obtained, consisting of metal and stone, wood, glass, concrete, in all these combinations, metal elements strengthen the structure, adding stability and strength to it.

Stairs, fully or partially made of metal, can be of any shape – helical and straight, elliptical and curved. All-metal ladders can serve as the main and auxiliary means of descent / ascent, can be installed almost anywhere – today there are enough coatings that can protect the metal prone to rusting from moisture, while giving a nondescript iron product an attractive look.

Metal is not easy to process, but even standard products of modern rolled metal products allow the most fantastic ideas of designers and customers to be embodied in combined staircases. In addition, metal stairs are cheaper than wooden ones, because the cost of metal is lower than the cost of hardwood.

And yet, few customers would agree that their internal staircase was completely made of metal, only when they imagine the booming sound of steps on metal steps, a metal staircase evokes an association with cold – “cold metal”. It is quite another matter if only the frame of the stairs is metal, and the rest of the elements are made of another material – wood, stone or glass.

If a wooden staircase creates an aura of classical style, then a staircase on a metal frame gives a feeling of lightness and airiness of modernity. However, the final product – a metal staircase – will be what they can do, so you need to carefully choose the performers.

How to make a metal ladder

Metal stairs are used in different conditions – they are external and internal. In the first case, strength and high wear resistance are important, without any special design refinements. There are more requirements for internal metal stairs, they must be both durable and strictly comply with the style, not have flaws and flaws.

Elements of internal and external staircases made of metal are connected by welding, in each case in different ways – on the internal staircase, welds should not be conspicuous. Would you say that this is impossible? Well, why – experienced craftsmen may not be like that. Even a welded seam can and should become a design element, be combined with the main staircase ornament and dissolve in it. A metal staircase can be special, made of non-ferrous metals and alloys, with chrome plating and forged decorative ornaments – a real masterpiece.

Until the moment when the customer admires his new acquisition – a metal staircase, it goes through several stages of creation. At the first stage, the designer develops the style of the future staircase, creating sketches and coordinating them with the customer. Next, the contractor takes measurements at the installation site and calculates the structure of the stairs. The calculations are completed – the drawings are transferred to the workshops, where all the staircase elements, basic and decorative, will be manufactured. In the next step, the installers assemble the ladder structure at the installation site. If other repair work is underway in the room (finishing, installation of other equipment), then the staircase is only partially assembled – only the main elements. The last stage is the complete assembly of all elements and as a result, the metal staircase is ready. An important note – not a single serious performer will agree to lower the strength characteristics of the staircase to suit the design, the main task of the staircase is to be safe.

In the manufacture of metal and combined stairs, almost the entire range of rolled metal is used: steel pipes and sheets, fittings and profiled steel (angle, channel, I-beam). Kosoura and bowstrings can be of an I-beam or channel, as well as of a steel angle and a non-standard profile – box-shaped, sawtooth, double-sided T-shaped, equipped with brackets. Forging and casting are used in the creation of decorative elements, which make the stairs unique. The steps of a metal staircase with a steel sheet base are given a ribbed surface or completely covered with a material that reduces slip to a minimum, rubber is well suited here.

The creation of metal stairs is a painstaking process. It is not enough to pay all attention to the strength of the structure, you need to carefully process all the ladder elements from rust and burrs before painting. All edge parts must be neatly rounded – any imperfection can result in injury.

In such a matter as the creation of metal stairs, the professionalism of the performer is not an empty phrase.
