Modern gates, like any metal products today, have little in common with the metal gates that decades ago separated the street and the courtyard (garage) of private owners. Particularly attractive about sliding gates is that their design allows the passage of vehicles of any height, because there are no structural elements above the sliding door leaf. Various finishing materials are used for this metal product – hot-rolled steel sheet, sandwich panel and corrugated board, followed by painting according to the general exterior of the object. Installation of sliding gates is carried out in the warm season; rigid console blocks and a high-quality wall foundation are required. Maximum width of sliding (sliding) gates – 12 m, height – 4 m. In this case, the door leaf must have a length that is 1/3 greater than the width of the opening.

Metal swing gates – one of the oldest gate designs. Low cost, ease of use and high reliability make this type of metal product invariably popular. The design of a swing gate includes two leaves, symmetrical to each other, with hinge fastening on the gate supports. In some cases, the gate support is made in the form of a rigid contour consisting of vertical posts and vertical jumpers that close the contour. Metal swing gates open both outward and inward, depending on the free space. The cladding can be made with steel sheet and siding, corrugated board and applique, stainless steel strip, clapboard and sandwich panels. For example, swinging wrought-iron gates in an arched style look great. The leaf frames are made of a profile pipe, sizes from 45×25 mm to 80×40 mm, the maximum length of each leaf is 7.5 m. The swing gate drive can be either mechanical or electrical.

Folding (sectional) metal gates consist of several rectangular sections connected to each other. When opening such gates, they fold up like an accordion, taking up a minimum of space and completely freeing the opening. Section frame and guides installed on the ceiling or wall are made of steel profiles. The inner space of each section is filled with hot-smoked steel sheet or sandwich panels, the sections are interconnected with steel hinges. The folding gate structure moves on steel trolleys along guides. Special locks are installed on the sections, in the upper and lower parts – synthetic brushes, which reduce the blowing of the wind. Possible dimensions of this metal product: the height of the sections is from 2 to 6 m, the total width of the door leaf is from 2.2 to 18 m. In the open state, the folding gates will take from 0.25 to 0.9 m of space outside the opening, depending on the number of sections. The installation of supporting rails will require at least 0.3 m of the distance between the opening and the ceiling. Safety glass windows can be cut into the folding gate leaves. Lifting gates (lift-and-turn or rolling), as a rule, they are used to cover garage openings, they retain heat well. Up-and-over doors consist of a gate leaf, frame, counterweight system and guides. A subspecies of overhead doors are overhead sectional (the door leaf consists of two or three sections). The role of counterweights is played by springs that compensate for the sash weight. The gate opens from the bottom up: the sash rises, its upper edge goes along the guides to the ceiling and the entire sash is parallel to the ceiling plane. Such metal garage doors are completely made of metal – a steel profiled tube for guides and a sash frame, the sash space is filled with hot-rolled steel sheet. The cladding is made with a profiled steel sheet, between the cladding and the base, a mineral wool or foam insulation is laid. Cladding can also be done with a sandwich panel.

Rolling gates operate on the principle of roller shutters (roller shutters), they consist of a box, guides and a shaft on which the door leaf is wound from lamellas. The door leaf of such a gate is mainly made of aluminum lamellas or steel profiles with internal insulation. When opening, the door leaf goes up along the guides, tightly wrapping around the shaft.

The maximum width of both types of overhead gates is 6 m, the height is 3 m. To install the gates, at least 0.2 m of free space is required between the leaf and the ceiling. Gate wing control – mechanical or automatic.
