Ornamental shrubs for garden decoration

Forsythia. An unpretentious shrub familiar to many, especially beautiful at the time of flowering. Bright yellow, literally sunny flowers appear on this shrub in early spring. Forsythia blooms for two or even three weeks, remaining all this time the main decoration of the site, especially against the background of just emerging young greenery. The bush can be trimmed to form a ball. Forsythia does not grow too quickly, but noticeably. For planting, it is better to choose sunny meadows. Forsythia is also beautiful in autumn, when the leaves turn golden or purple-red.

This shrub is not tall – up to a meter, it feels good in the shade, is unpretentious, but, like most of these plants, it needs pruning regularly. The main drawback is that the berries that appear in the place of inflorescences are poisonous! The popular name Wolfberry speaks for itself.

Japanese quince or Chaenomeles. It blooms very elegantly – with large bright flowers. Already the buds themselves – purple, immediately noticeable – are incredibly beautiful. In addition, it is indeed a fruiting plant, albeit undersized. Small apples, quince appear in place of flowers, which are very useful due to the many vitamins. Japanese quince takes root well in the shade of tall trees, is unpretentious to the soil, and several of these bushes will become a good green hedge. Usually does not need pruning, grows slowly and will not become tall.

Almonds are low. It blooms early, one of the first in the garden. At the same time, the aroma of almonds will not leave anyone indifferent. It is unpretentious, it can be grown even in Siberian conditions, it is not necessary to water, on the contrary, an excess of moisture can destroy almonds. An indisputable plus is a fruiting plant, and the fruits, similar to fluffy balls, are widely used in medicine. We must not forget only that the kernels of almonds are poisonous in their raw form. But after heat treatment, they are not dangerous and are used as a seasoning for meat or rice. The bush grows up to 1.5 meters, it tolerates a haircut well.

Magonia belongs to the barberry, is very unpretentious, can grow in the shade and in the sun. It blooms brightly and beautifully, with small yellow flowers gathering in large clusters. In addition to unpretentiousness, the advantages of Mahonia should include evergreen leaves, which adorn the garden in winter. In addition, this shrub gives small blue fruits, which are quite edible, sweet and sour, can be used for jams, jelly and even wine.

Felt cherry. Unlike its taller “relative”, it is a shrub that can stretch up to 1.5 meters in length. Felt cherry blossoms very beautifully with pink flowers. The berries are sweeter than ordinary cherries, the harvest is stable. This is a non-capricious plant that can be grown even in a rather harsh climate. Loves the sun, it is advisable to apply fertilizers.

Familiar bush, isn’t it? This is a spirea, a plant that gardeners and landscape designers love very much. There are several varieties, the bush presented by us with white small flowers descending in whole clusters is one of the most common. But there are spireas that bloom in both pink and red flowers. An unpretentious plant, a good option for a hedge. But it grows very quickly, you will have to cut it regularly, and thoroughly.

Bubbles. Absolutely unpretentious and at the same time beautiful shrub. There are several varieties, the most popular are Kalinolist and Diabolo. It looks impressive – the dense crown has a natural ball shape, the leaves are carved, the inflorescences are bright. The bladder lives up to 25 years old, it grows actively – under good conditions, up to 40 cm per year, so you will often have to cut.

Hydrangea paniculata. The flowering of this shrub is very beautiful – white, pink, white-pink, purple, lilac clusters literally cover the whole plant. Moreover, the shrub blooms all summer. Paniculata hydrangea actively grows in height, if you do not cut it, you will need support. For planting, it is better to find a sunny meadow or front garden facing the south side of the house.

Budleya. A fairly tall shrub that can reach a height of three meters without pruning. Inflorescences are very similar to lilacs, but more elongated and tapering to the edge, there are many varieties that differ in color. Blooms all summer, literally until the first frost. The honey aroma of budley will attract butterflies, for which it is also called the “moth tree”. This shrub grows quickly, plants cannot be planted closely, but you will have to cut it regularly, this increases the intensity of flowering.

Chubushnik. Also known as garden jasmine, this is botanically incorrect. Will decorate your garden with very delicate, snow-white flowers that really look like jasmine. The aroma of the chubushnik flowers is magnificent and spreads throughout the garden. It is rarely necessary to water this shrub, only in drought, in the spring it can be fed and cut off dry branches.

This shrub does not need special introduction, as it is very popular with summer residents and gardeners. This is a rosehip, which is famous not only for its magnificent flowers, which come in all kinds of shades, but also for its very useful berries. Rosehip is unpretentious, grows well and without care. But in order to give it a “civilized” look, one should either cut it off or build a support so that it can curl. Rosehip grows both in the sun and in partial shade, a good option for a green hedge.
