If the ridge crowns the entire roof structure, then the valley (gutter) connects the slopes that are placed on adjacent roof sections. This is the angle, the line of intersection of two planes. Important! An open valley does not need additional waterproofing, but a closed and interwoven one does. In addition, the open valley provides self-cleaning of the roof โ rainwater and snow flow down, go down under their own weight.
As for the features of arranging valleys on roofs with different coatings, several important points should be noted:
- For the valley on the metal roofing, special metal corners are used, which are sold in modules with a length of two meters. It is important to choose this element to match the color of the roof. The lathing at the site of the valley installation is often nailed โ twice as often as on the rest of the roof to strengthen the junction. The groove is mounted from the bottom up;
- If corrugated board is used, then additional lathing is also laid under the valley, the strips go along the innermost corner, butt to each other. Waterproofing is required on top of the crate boards;
- Additional longitudinal boards will be needed at the junction of the slopes and in the case of using ondulin or tiles. Silicone gaskets should be used to prevent water infiltration and snow dust ingress under the slope joints. The waterproofing membrane is attached with double-sided tape and with a construction stapler.
