How to get rid of mold on plastic windows and slopes

The most common cause of mold on windows and slopes is high humidity levels. If your windows are crying and sweating throughout the cold season, and you have not done anything about it – get ready! Very soon, a black plaque will grow violently on these double-glazed windows, which you will definitely not be happy about.

Most often, black mold appears in the corners, at the place where the trim of the slope is attached to the plastic. On the window itself, black spots can appear on fasteners, hinges, in strips between the joints of the parts of the glass unit.

Important! All slopes are susceptible to the appearance of mold, but more often it is found on plasterboard finishing, especially if the technology of installing a glass unit was violated and sealing was not carried out.

It is easier to deal with mold directly on a plastic window – it is a smooth surface, so black spots appear at joints, hinges and other uneven parts, looking for places where you can gain a foothold.

The plastic window should be thoroughly wiped with such folk remedies against mold as whiteness, ammonia, vinegar. You can also use special fungicides against mold. The window is washed, stains are easily removed, then the product is washed off with clean water. It is highly desirable to dry the window thoroughly, you can use a fan heater or a regular hair dryer.

If the mold gets into the strips between the parts of the window, other hard-to-reach places and does not give up just like that, use a hard brush, you can use a toothbrush, thin sharp objects to get to it and clean the black plaque.

The situation is more complicated with slopes. You can, of course, try to treat the blackened surface with a fungicide or folk remedy, and then paint over. But there is no guarantee that the mold will not reappear in a month or two. First, you should get rid of the causes of its appearance by taking the following measures:

1. Remove unnecessary indoor flowers – two or three pots should be left on the windowsill, no more, because the plants that you water are a source of dampness.
2. Do not keep roller shutters, blinds and blackout curtains constantly lowered – air around the window must circulate freely.
3. Open the window for ventilation for at least 15 minutes twice a day.
4. Treat the slopes with waterproofing agents that will not allow moisture to be absorbed.
5. Additionally insulate the slopes outside. It is from the street that window openings should be especially carefully insulated, because during installation, cold bridges could remain, which causes condensation and mold.

The most radical way to combat mold on slopes is to completely remove the trim, peel them to the ground. This is especially true in the case of drywall, because if mold is deeply ingrained in it, you cannot do anything. Plastic slopes should also be removed – there are definitely more black spots under them than on the surface. Then treatment is carried out with folk remedies or ready-made fungicides, and after drying, you can start finishing the slopes again.

It is important to remember that mold cannot grow in a dry and regularly ventilated area under direct sunlight. Provide such conditions in the room, monitor the condition of plastic windows, carry out preventive treatment with anti-mold agents, and you will not encounter this unpleasant and harmful phenomenon.
