How to make a new window

This post explains the simple steps of how to open a new window in WordPress. It discusses the advantages and distinct qualities of this feature, such as the ability to summon multiple windows for easy multitasking, the copy-paste function available for content from one window to the other, and the Undo/Redo option to reverse the changes made in the window. It also provides useful instructions on how to conveniently locate and open a new window. All these features add to WordPressโ€™s convenience, making it a comprehensive yet simple content creation platform.

A new additional window in the house is like a painting or print. You can open a pleasant view, decorate an empty wall, illuminate a gloomy corner, of course, add light and fresh air to the house. You cut through a window opening in the wall and removed the old window. Installing a new window is a work of several hours if you have a ready-made kit at hand. The finished wooden window is supplied with sashes, jambs and a window sill, as well as sash fittings. Opening and fixed sashes are usually not glazed. They are glazed with either glass or double-glazed windows after the window is installed. For ease of installation, the windows are fully completed with materials and structures. Aluminum windows are usually screwed to wooden frames, which are inserted as usual. Windows constructed from PVC are more commonly installed by suppliers. Internal window sills for finished windows are bought and installed separately.

If the window sill of the wooden frame does not protrude more than 30 mm above the edge of the window, then at the base of the opening it is necessary to cut down the masonry to install a concrete additional window sill. To prevent water from getting into the joint behind the additional window sill, insert a stainless steel strip into the groove at the top of the additional window sill and at the bottom of the wooden frame. To fix the jambs of the finished frame to the wall, take special screws with dowels. These latches allow you to secure the window and not displace it after the plugs are clogged. Windows with lifting casement sashes in box frames are fixed with wedges at the top and bottom. Window openings with a quarter are not always necessary for swing windows with lifting casement sashes equipped with spring balancers. But many professionals prefer this type of opening, because in this case the window frame is better protected from rain and sun, the same applies to the joint between the wall and the frame. Traditional lifting casement windows, when blocks, cords and counterweights are hidden in the frames, are always installed in the openings with the selected quarter.

Before choosing a window type, familiarize yourself with the catalogs. Pay attention to the dimensions of the openings that fit the dimensions of the finished windows that you would like to purchase. Do not forget to check if these windows have double glazing, weather protection and other structural elements. For a hinged window, specify the direction in which the sashes open. And the last thing. Some ready-made window sets are intended only for new buildings, while others are for remodeling old ones. The technology shown here is not used when installing windows in new buildings.

How to install windows

1. How to prepare the opening. Use a heavy hammer and chisel to break off the masonry at the bottom of the window opening to prepare space for the finished additional sill with a protruding edge. The window sill should hang over the wall by at least 30 mm. Prepare a solution: mix sand and cement in a 4: 1 ratio, then, according to the manufacturerโ€™s instructions, dissolve the plasticizer in water and add it to the mixture of sand and cement to the desired consistency. Spread the mortar on the surface of the opening with a trowel as shown in the figure.

2. How to insert the window sill into the wall. Together with an assistant, put the prepared window sill in place on a layer of mortar. Check if you fit the sill well against the wall, then check if it is horizontal using a level. If necessary, level it by placing a piece of slate where necessary. If the window sill does not occupy the entire thickness of the wall, raise the inner surface of the wall to the level of the window sill by placing a row of bricks. Leave the solution overnight to set..

3. How to install a waterproof bar. Cut a 19 x 6 mm stainless steel strip to the length of the window opening. Place the mortar or mastic in the groove of the windowsill, and then insert the metal strip there. Prepare a new window unit for installation by applying mastic to the groove where the waterproof barrier is installed.

4. How to install a window block. If the new window frame has tabs at the ends of the rails, cut them off. Slide the window unit into place and secure it in the opening with wedges at the top and bottom. Make sure the window is tight and level. Place spacers between the jambs and the wall, if necessary. Mark the position of two or three clips along the length of each jamb so that these marks line up with the bricks and not with the joints between them.

5. How to dock a window. For each pencil mark on the jambs, drill holes in the wall to the depth recommended by the manufacturer. Make sure the window is tight and that the sashes open and close freely. Press the clips into the holes on the jambs together with the dowels and screw the clips with a screwdriver. Close the holes with wood plugs or the special caps that come with the clips.

6. How to seal joints. Working on both sides of the wall or, if quarters are selected in the opening, only from the inside, press the mortar into the slots between the window frame and the edges of the wall. Allow the mortar to set, then seal the joint between the wall and frame from the outside with a sealing compound.

7. How to install a sill board. Insert the rear ledge of the sill board into the corresponding slot in the window frame. You can nip the board to the frame for better fixation. To strengthen the sill board more firmly, drill a hole through the middle of the board into the wall and screw in a screw. Cover the screw head with filler or wood stopper.

8. Completion of work. Plaster the walls around the frame and windowsill. The frame can be covered with a wooden board so as not to stain with plaster. Smooth the surface of the plaster with a trowel. Glaze fixed and opening sashes with single or double glazing.

How to install a window unit box with lifting sashes in an opening with a quarter

How to drive the wedges. Place the window unit in the opening in the desired position. Press it firmly against the edges of the quarter. Check to see if it fits snugly, then reinforce it by hammering wedges between the top bar and the support beam and the bottom bar and the sill or wall. Fill all gaps between the frame and the wall with mortar. Seal the outer joints between the frame and the wall with mastic. Attach the window sill, fix it and plaster the surfaces in the same way as with a swing window. If the inside plane of the frame is flush with the wall, attach trims to the sides and top of the window.
