A mansion in the woods of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is stunning with its sophisticated harmony with the natural surroundings. “DIALOG” world famous architects, creators of Residence Southlands, admit that the project was complex also because the location was in a spot surrounded by a forest – in the historic surroundings in Canada, where a waterfall is harsh all year round and the soil is not at all suitable for building.

The house was built around the structural grid of the former home, preserving the remains of its original supports and columns. The homestead seems to redefine the competing notions of private and living “showcase” in a location that is clearly visible from the road.
Concrete, glass and woodwork were used in the construction. Access to a private outdoor environment is provided on the northern side of the mansion by integrating the garden and the forest area.

The building stands on a stream and crosses its shallowest and shallowest part. This arrangement sort of blurs the line between interior and exterior, and the surrounding bamboo, rhododendrons, Japanese maples, and other plants have become part of the overall design of the living spaces and the wooden porch of the building.
The design project of the Residence Southlands has become a unique forest architectural creation that is unusually harmonious with the wildlife, and fits into the awkward landscape in a stunning way.
