This single-family residential home project is a collaborative effort between Strachan Group Architects and Rachael Rush. Visitors to our portal going to New Zealand will find this house in Auckland on a limited and compact lot a stone’s throw from Takapuna Beach. The name of the project is connected to this fact, because the three-storeyed black building’s pediment hints at the culture of summer holidays by the water and a passion for boating. And the transparent walls create the feeling of a kind of incubator, custom-made for its inhabitants.

The simplicity of forms on the outside contrasts with the highly artistic wooden interior, which demonstrates exceptional skill of the builder.

The entire space of the first floor belongs to the common area (it houses the kitchen, a large dining room, a cozy recreation room with a real fireplace and two courtyards), the only exception being the children’s.

The second level includes two bedrooms and a convertible living room. Basement features garage, exercise room and storage.

The presence of three-story neighbors and a small yard area are offset by lots of light, sunshine, and glimpses of hudukawa trees and a sense of proximity to the ocean. The latter is ensured by the absolute transparency of the walls, which can be blinded if desired, allowing no other view to penetrate.

This house shows the intention to attract the viewer, control his thoughts and at the same time keep the intrigue.
