Regulars Modern houses If you’re familiar with the term “American ranch,” you probably have an idea of what it’s supposed to look like. Today, however, we will tell you about an exclusive project, the authors of which were the employees of the architectural firm Turnbull Griffini Heslup. We are talking about elegant, almost airy building, which recently appeared in the suburbs of the American town of Petaluma.
The owners of this big, abandoned farm of about 70 hectares, that was abandoned for more than thirty years, were a young couple with three kids who dreamed of building a cottage that would resemble a traditional American hayloft. Their love of nature, their desire for the land, and their desire to farm has been symbolized by this house. That’s why they decided to move to a place where even nowadays the ability to grow vegetables and raise cattle is especially valued.
The result is an elegant all-white building with a completely transparent façade and an oversized gate instead of a door that overlooks an open kitchen with an adjacent decked area for entertaining and a large rectangular swimming pool.
The first floor is occupied by combined living, dining and kitchen areas, which are visually separated by properly placed furniture. Here in the side closed annexe you’ll find a cozy little bedroom and an ultra-modern bathroom. Two under-roof rooms serve as children’s quarters, either side of the small, second-level living room, which is accessed by a staircase that’s as light as the rest of the house.
The home is equipped with the latest in hydro, thermal and acoustic insulation, as well as an energy efficient solar lighting system.
This sounds fascinating! Can you please provide more details about the re-imagining of the American ranch? How has the concept been executed elegantly?
