In the historic city center Harlem, Netherlands, is a venerable century-old building with a picturesque courtyard overlooking an ancient pickaxe that is more than two centuries old. Because of the acute shortage of land in the region, there is only a limited amount of building space, so design decisions are made for the optimal use of available space and the maximum of spatial perception.
Canal House (located on one of the best canals) has two floors and an attic. Very striking is the open floor plan of the lower level, which was proposed by a local architectural firm Kempe& Interieurontwerp – Huge black steel doors lead directly into the patio.










Externally simple but quality materials were used in the renovation, creating an outstanding interior. Virtually every surface is made of Corian, including bathrooms and toilets. The floor and wooden details are made of solid elm and beech. The kitchen from an Italian brand Varenna Poliform. The backyard is paved with tile that resembles interior tile, which creates a flowing effect of the space.
