CHESMORE/BUCK Architecture’s rustic villa on a bluff just off the water’s edge on Whidby Island, WA, USA

Our readers have a great opportunity to see images of this modern home by CHESMORE/BUCK Architecture, located on Whidbey Island in Washington, USA. Wood was used as the dominant material because of the consistency with the environment. The residence is located on the west shore in a wooded area. Smugglers Cove Road runs on the east side. On the opposite side is the steep cliff of Puget Sound leading to the very water's edge.

The ceiling is trimmed with the same wood. That visually increases the space. Warm oak parquet floors, doors and cabinets – fir. The structure has only two walls. One separates the main room from the guest room, the other from the bedroom. All windows have a panorama of the breathtaking scenery, thanks to which the boundaries of interior and exterior are practically invisible.
