The California firm Horst Architects created the Beck Residence, a stunning house with a modern design and an excellent lighting system. Not all of us have the opportunity to build a huge house with lots of rooms. This house is another great example of the most productive use of space.
The design of this home, perched atop a rocky promontory, solves the problem of limited space as much as possible. The architects had the task of combining an office for work and a bedroom and living room in a small room. To this end, all internal walls were completely demolished and the second level was added, which leads to the exquisite staircase.
In place of traditional walls, sliding partitions and fabric screens were invented. It’s all about making the space as functional and comfortable as possible. Now one and the same room can turn into a study during the day and a cozy nest for a romantic dinner. Wide windows offer beautiful sea views. And for the residents to have the opportunity to fence off from the outside world if they want, the designers used wooden shutters.
Combination of various traditional and new finishing materials, wisely distributed accents, and clear lines allowed to create a surprisingly pleasant place for comfortable work and rest. Neutral traditional colors were chosen for the interior. Black, brown, sand, gray. These colors look delightful at any time of day, especially at sunset or dawn, when the pink-red rays of the sun come through the glass.
Lots of glass in the decor and interior details give the space an airy, lightweight feel. And the variability of lighting allows you to create the right mood in the home. Overhead lights for work, faux decorative stone for romance, nightlights for reading, and recessed lights for comfort. Reflections of the lights are reflected in the glass details, maintaining a sense of real magic.
