This remarkable transformation of a brick farmhouse in Northern Ireland’s Loughloughan region into an elegant Barn cottage by McGarry-Moon Architects is certainly one for the record books. This cottage was distinctive because it was constructed from 100% bespoke reclamation pieces and materials, combining outhouse bricks from the 1800s with a unique silvery-grey slate roof from the 30s and, 40s. The result of this blend of styles and materials is an incredibly cosy and inviting living space fitting north Ireland’s dynamic atmosphere. Its captivating fireplaces, ensuite bays, home study and integrated kitchen were all designed to provide the ultimate in comfort and luxury while still preserving the character of a traditional barn. The cottage also presents two unique landscaping features, a striking granite circle at the entrance and a curved drystone wall to enclose the lawn. All in all, McGarry-Moon Architects have achieved their goal to create a unique and distinctly Irish property with all the modern features you would expect from a luxury home.
The combination of old construction techniques and progressive methods made it possible not only to rationally use the area of the old house but also to enlarge it by adding a new storey.
The second floor is light and airy with large windows that let in lots of sunshine. Natural materials were used for the rooms. Exclusive Furniture Also mostly wooden.
