A rugged cottage of stone and steel on the seashore

This charming cottage is situated right on the shore of an idyllic sea, made from solid stone and tough steel. It is a perfect destination for a much-needed getaway, with its rustic charm and excellent location near the ocean. The building is built to withstand all the power that nature can throw at it, while still being picturesque and cozy inside. Its unique combination of materials and design is both captivating and robust. The cottage has all the amenities one could desire, including a spacious living area, full kitchen, and terrace overlooking the sea. In addition, its intimate natural setting offers unparalleled serenity and beauty - be it for a romantic escape, weekend break, or summer vacation.

Tyree is the westernmost island of the Inner Hebrides archipelago, which is characterized by beautiful nature and a marvelous landscape. Dave and Liz Kerr purchased a charming 167-square-foot cottage in the area after retiring. It had a simple layout that included three bedrooms, a kitchen with dining room, living room and two bathrooms.

Facade cladding with steel sheeting

The cladding of the front side of the annex was made with galvanized steel sheets and corrugated fiber-cement partitions, which blended harmoniously with the curved profile of the roof.

The upper floor of this structure houses a large functional kitchen, cozy living room and dining room, while the master bedroom and modern bathroom are on the first tier.

The living space of an elevated cottage

The living area sits on a small elevation, while the bedrooms are recessed into the ground and have a beautiful view of the enclosed garden.

Glazed Roof

The L-shaped glass roof connects the three sections of the property, allowing sunlight to penetrate and fill the room with a dazzling glow. Modern designs in the interior design blend wonderfully with the textured stone walls, giving the cottage an authentic and distinctive look.

Cottage windows with sea views

Elegant window openings allow the family to enjoy a picturesque view of the sea that is 200 meters away.

Wooden stairs to the dining room

Gorgeous wooden steps with a textured moraine surface allow guests to ascend to the dining room.

A fireplace in a guest bedroom interior

The guest bedroom on the first floor of the cottage has another original fireplace for the house.

Cottage patio

Murray Kerr’s interesting design for a house on Scotland’s Tyree Island is an impressive and creative masterpiece. It features a gorgeous geographic location surrounded by sea and valleys, a surprisingly rustic exterior, a comfortable interior with wood and metal accents, and a streamlined layout that draws close attention and public interest.

This setting sounds intriguing! I’m curious to know, what kind of activities or lifestyle might one experience living in this rugged cottage on the seashore? Is it surrounded by cliffs or sandy beaches? And how does the combination of stone and steel contribute to the overall atmosphere and appearance of this unique cottage?
