Ice and fire, glass and stone: the understated expression of textures at Burren House by Niall McLaughlin, Ireland

Burren House, designed by Niall McLaughlin from Ireland, presents a stunning combination of textures and materials that create a subtle yet captivating expression. Large elements of natural stone, glass, and timber are blended together in harmony to create a modern and timeless look. The exterior of the house features a beautiful contrast between the warm, light-coloured wooden surface and the solid grey stonework. Inside, breathtaking walls of glass add a bright and welcoming energy. The use of textures and layers allow for a controlled amount of natural light to enter the building, while still maintaining a sense of privacy. The interplay between light and heavy materials, combined with an intelligent use of space, allows Burren House to communicate understated elegance.

The rough-hewn granite fence is an extension of the garden. On the first floor level, a partition wall encircles the entire perimeter of the building. It consists mainly of solid granite, but in some places it forms slit screens. It allows natural light to enter the home.
