Over 130 species of mosses now grow in the garden. They cover soil, tree trunks, rocks. In the center of this amazing living “carpet” is a pond shaped like a Chinese character meaning “mind” (“heart”).

No tourists allowed in Saiho-ji. It's a place for meditation and prayer, so that's the only reason people can visit it.
