How to embroider with beads

Beaded picture

Every girl will be able to learn embroidery techniques, there would be a desire. There are many video tutorials and workshops that explain in detail how to embroider with beads. You just have to purchase all the necessary tools and materials:

  • canvas
  • a needle without thickening;
  • transparent thin thread (it is better to choose dacron or monofilament);
  • scissors;
  • beads of different colors.

Beadwork should be done in stages, to be read with a thread no longer than 40 cm. So you will not get confused at the initial stage and master new techniques for yourself. For more comfortable embroidery, it is worthwhile to purchase a hoop or a special machine so that you can pull on a canvas or fabric. If the base is smaller, then you can sew additional fabric around the perimeter so that the “canvas” for your picture is calmly stretched. It is advisable to lay light fabric or paper on the working area so that randomly spilled beads can be easily found.

Types of seams

There are a huge number of different types of seams that are suitable for creating a variety of paintings, sizes of beads. If you decide to start learning this skill, then you should go from the simplest to the most complex so that your fingers get used to such painstaking work and remember all the basic techniques. Bead embroidery can be done with several main seams:

  • forward with a needle;
  • lowercase
  • stalked;
  • arched.

Embroidery technique

The simplest type of seam is “forward with a needle”. From the side, it looks like a dashed line. Pass the needle from the wrong side to the front, string the bead and return to the wrong side again. The length of the stitch should be equal to the length of the beads so that there is no contraction of the fabric or voids between the beads. Step back half a millimeter and again thread the needle onto the front side. Make it vertical or horizontal – it doesn’t really matter.

The lower seam involves one bead per stitch. From the wrong side, it will look like a straight line drawn on a ruler. The beads are sewn denser to each other than in the previous version. Pass the needle on the front side, insert the beads and thread the needle on the wrong side in the opposite direction. For a new stitch, back as much as one bead takes up space, repeat the steps. This technique of embroidery with beads is somewhat more complicated than the previous one, but it looks great.

If you want to master the stalk seam, then there is nothing complicated. The only difference from the lowercase is that you need to start on the front side. Put the beads on the needle and pass it from the front side to the wrong side, back off the size equal to the size of the bead in the opposite direction and pass the needle to the front side so that it passes through the bead again. From the inside, such a seam will look like a dashed line, but the beads are adjacent to the base fastened than in the seam “forward with a needle”.

An arched seam is suitable for sewing a large space of a large element of a picture by sewing several beads at once. String not one, but several beads on a needle, and only one needs to be sewn to the base. The technique is the same as that of the stalk seam. The picture with beads will not turn out as tough as if you sew each bead to the base, so keep that in mind. It will be much easier and faster to fill a corner in this way or draw a frame around the perimeter. You can fix the seam in the way that is familiar to you, the main thing is that it does not split, so cut the ends of the thread carefully.

How to choose a foundation

Beadwork

Almost any fabric or even leather can be the basis for embroidering a picture with beads, but you should pay attention to its choice, because it is not convenient to work with all materials. For beginners, natural flax is best. It is very dense, fiber into the cell, because it is just suitable for such work, it does not slip. Cotton can also be included here, but it will be slightly thinner than flax. It all depends on what size the beads will be, because you do not want your picture to deform under their weight in the end.

Craftswomen often use silk or even satin as the basis, but such a fabric is very difficult to process, because it constantly creeps out of your hands, it is thin and easy to spoil. So for learning the technique of embroidery with beads, it is better to choose something simpler, and then you can improve your skills. Please note that it is not recommended to erase the picture after the end of work, so the base should not be soiled.
