“Green Corner” in Fujieda – the fragile charm of Villa Ryokuen no Su by mA-style Architects

mA-style Architects has recently completed Villa Ryokuen no Su, a minimalist yet enchanting guest house located in Fujieda, Japan. The project, “Green Corner” consists of two buildings, each distinguished by the unique and fragile charm of Japanese architecture, offering visitors both tranquility and comfort. The harmonious design combines cedar innerwood walls, translucent paper doors, and an outdoor deck integrated into a beautiful green scenery which provides pleasant natural lighting and ventilation inside the house. The spacious interiors are further adorned by sculptural-like furniture, creating an inviting peaceful atmosphere. The exquisite design of this villa shines through in its simplicity and intimacy, making it a true haven to enjoy both vibrant nature and comfort.

The land on which this mysterious building later appeared was bought at auction in a fairly built-up area. The architects’ love of natural plants was stronger than circumstances. That’s how Ryokuen no Su came to be. The house allows you to go from noisy and polluted streets in an instant to a bright world of peace and quiet with a green gentle garden.

Plants grow all around, so any room has a pleasing view of lush grass and touching trees framed by rocks, making them visually even more fragile. And of course, the interior echoes the given mood. Light shades of wood, lots of glass and white accents make the house light, weightless and incredibly airy.

Another detail that is impossible not to notice is the white outer floating screen. Its downstairs space must, according to the architects, be precisely adjusted to the height of the individual owner, for maximum comfort and a perfect balance of light.
