Charming and mesmerizing residence Moerkensheide is a unique mansion designed and brought to life by the specialists of the engineering office Dieter De Vos Architecten in 2013. It is located in the small and cozy town of De Pintet, Belgium. An unusual house rises on an attractive plot on the edge of a residential area across from a small forest. Explicit sun orientation forms the triangular composition of the building. The gardens formally complement the exterior of the amazing structure, as each of them is designed for a particular time of day: morning, afternoon and evening.
The symmetrical spatial configuration comprises a trio of cubes arranged around an equilateral triangle together with an asymmetrical garage block connection, which brilliantly defines the building’s exceptional geometry. The architectural volume is developed by means of a concrete pedestal and masonry in the form of a load-bearing wall, which was erected using carefully selected burnt peat bricks using the flagstone technique. The design of the building was complemented by a delightful protruding arched window decoration on the first floor and rectangular openings on the upper tier.
Warm materials and natural colors enliven the guest lounge. Wood panelling throughout the room, a mosaic floor in a light pink and sandy color and a built-in kitchen worktop were used to clad the surfaces.
The original facade of the cottage is made with the use of bricks of different colors, which allows you to achieve a unique effect of pearl shine, shimmering in the sun.
If necessary, a more intimate atmosphere can be created in the residence by the dark brown streaming curtains which cover the window openings completely, creating a chamber-like atmosphere. Their colors match perfectly with the range of coverings and the furniture set.
Another wing houses a sophisticated kitchen with dining space. The windows are placed on both sides, they allow you to create a stunning atmosphere, as if the family members and guests are in the open nature, it forms a fascinating atmosphere. Accentuating the design is a delightful lighting system, featuring LED strips around the perimeter of the home, spotlights in the kitchen island area and a pendant lamp in the form of a balloon above the dining table.
Three free-standing closets separate the two bedrooms and the bathroom from the hallway, in addition to containing storage space for items and technical equipment. Rooms can be closed off from the hallway with invisible doors hidden in shelving. At the same time round staircase railing looks incredibly aesthetically pleasing and original.
The bathroom is also placed behind one of the massive closets. It is made in a classic minimalist stylistic manner. White paint is used for the wall and ceiling cladding, against which the light grey floor covering looks stunning. Modern bathroom fixtures, chrome accessories and a dazzling lighting system complete the decoration.
The facade of the house is simple and refined. The exterior is complemented by clear lines and uncomplicated shapes. It is at the same time an open space which interacts organically with its surroundings. On the other hand, the building is a definite enclosed polygon that shelters the homeowners’ private lives from prying eyes.
