Unusual Window project was implemented in 2010 by the Spanish architectural firm LADAA in Valencia, Spain.
LADAA specialists analyzed the client’s requirements, planning rules and the topography of the site. Accordingly, the decision was made to create a large “podium” on which to live comfortably. In addition, the basement allowed it to place part of the housing and utilities and save space on the site with a steep slope.
From the elevated first floor you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the surrounding landscape. Here is the master bedroom. The sleeping quarters for guests and a bedroom for the daughter are placed in the “podium”, with a cozy patio attached to it from the main facade. This allowed the rooms to be well lit and allowed for natural ventilation. The living area of the owners and the area for guests and daughter were made completely independent.
Thus the house has the shape of a large orthogonal prism. Three of its vertical sides are almost opaque (neighbors and entrance), the fourth is completely transparent. It has a spectacular view. A slightly inclined pathway leads to the entrance. From the hallway through a glass corridor the visitor is led through a glass corridor into the interior living space. It’s a big space to be seen as a whole, but it can also be broken down into separate rooms.
On the podium are two spacious outdoor terraces that are an extension of the interior. You can use the stairs to go downstairs. Basement area has bedrooms, utility rooms, garage, home theater . The bedrooms have free access to one of the patios, either in front of the main facade or by the pool on the other side.
Despite the fact that the design of the house used quite simple ideas, the result is very unusual.
I have heard about LADAA’s Window project, which seems absolutely fascinating! I am curious to know more about it. Can you please explain what the concept of a “house on a podium” entails? How does this unique design contribute to the overall experience offered by LADAA’s Window?
