The Narigua House by David Pedroza Castañeda is a striking example of the fusion of architecture with landscape, El Jonuco, Mexico

The formidable, stark, maddening beauty of mountains of northern Mexico has never left anyone indifferent. Here, in a place El Jonuco – a picturesque, rock-limited valley, overgrown with wild forest and shrubbery, on a steep slope lined with a surprising private home Narigua House.

Forum City has repeatedly acquainted its readers with the houses, whose creators, showing respect for the natural environment, tried to connect their exterior with the local landscape. Narigua House – The brightest example of such a “architectural mimicry”. From a distance it can be taken for a heap of rocks after a geological cataclysm, and a person with a vivid imagination, it may remind a disguised and forgotten giant phantasmagoric helicopter.

Narigua House in Mexico

This mansion is the embodiment of the idea of a comfortable modern home, realized by the studio David Pedroza Castañeda. Its architecture and design express a modernist concept which “had to accept” the presence of a traditional local entourage.

The whole residence, made of monolithic concrete, has thick walls, a flat roof and wooden beams in the interior ceiling, typical of the Mexican architecture. It consists of three main levels. The first, lower level, contains the garage, storerooms and technical and ancillary rooms. The second level is divided between the hallway, bedrooms and stairs to the lower level. Third is the kitchen, dining and living room.

The interior is decorated in keeping with the national rustic style, which serves as a background for the antiques and products of Mexican craftsmen in the form of masks, sculptures, wooden figurines, textiles with ethnic motifs and paintings, side by side with minimalist furniture and modern appliances.

The project includes several outdoor terraces and patios for relaxing with a sense of blending in with nature. The exterior of the house is painted a ground color that is characteristic of the area and comes close to shades of rust.
