Before the remodel, the backyard was mostly lawn, tormented by southwest winds, and neighbors from the upper floors could look directly into the pool. The large game room in the back of the house was also unused and was included in our design assignment. The open and closed space of the house was rearranged to become the single heart of the home. A large Victorian canopy with massive wood-clad columns was used to give the two-story home more balance. The teak beams are flanked by a high parapet on the south wall of the property which protects the area from the wind and also provides a backdrop for the new interior.
Interior design by Jodi Mouritz also included audio-visual components: a Marantz surround sound audio system, Blu-ray and DVD player. A motorized 107-inch projector screen is housed in the acoustical ceiling and combined with an automatic blinds closing system to give a true movie experience. Furniture, flooring, shutters, and kitchen designed and installed by RED. Audio-visual system enhanced with outside televisions and loudspeakers, providing outdoor entertainment as well.
