Conference room
Authorities in the Belgian town of Hasselt decided to redevelop part of the city’s developments. West 8 Company developed a master plan to build a house of justice on the site of the old train station. Office, retail and public buildings, a hotel and a renovated park, as well as new residential neighborhoods are also to be added to the area.
Boardroom
The image of the hazelnut –tree on the coat of arms of the city of Hasselt is prominent on the façade. But this symbol has another meaning – in medieval Europe, justice was traditionally administered under a big, sprawling old tree, which symbolized the wisdom of the decisions made.
The restaurant in the courthouse
The most protected is the area of the house of Themis. These are courtrooms, judges’ personal rooms, waiting rooms, offices and other rooms, such as for security guards.

All in all, a singular piece of architecture that can be called a landmark. One can only wish visitors were inside it as a tourist or a student or an employee.
What makes the Themis house by Mayer H. Architects, a2o-architecten and Lens ass architecten so unusual in Belgium?
