The unusual Shotgun style exterior design was developed in the southern United States in response to the local climate. Breezes passively cool these long, narrow homes. At the same time, deep roof overhangs help shield interior décor from the sun’s dazzling glare. Dividing the building into separate functional zones gives the opportunity to increase the cooling effect.

The linear appearance of the corridors is reflected in the long walkways that face the front sides of the cottages.

Topography has defined the shape and volumetric silhouette of this mansion. The meandering floor plan follows the contours of the land. The structure stretches along the hill, allowing the sunlight to penetrate the interior space unimpeded.

Designed by the talented artisans at Wagner Hodgson, this cabin in the woods vividly reflects the agrarian history of the area. The facade walls were clad with rich, rust-colored metal shingles that contrast wonderfully with the light gray stone railing.
