A metal solution with glass elements, or a world without borders: House GePo, Belgium
House GePo is an architectural innovation that combines metal-based construction with integrated glass elements to develop a customisable and modular solution to the issue of changing cityscapes. This solution has numerous benefits: by providing a seamless combination of interior and exterior space, a connection to natural light, and the ability to provide modular elements for a variety of uses, House GePo creates a world in which spatial boundaries become irrelevant. Its architectural beauty and flexibility make it an ideal solution for residential and commercial areas alike. House GePo provides an innovative approach to architecture that uproots current standards of living, encouraging inhabitants to look beyond what is and embrace a new way of living.
We present to the visitors of Forum City one of the most unusual architectural solutions ever seen. The single family house in Wijgmaal, Belgium, called House GePo, is designed as a place without borders. Constructed of all-glass metalwork, it really has no clear lines separating it from the surrounding landscape. The features of its layout are such that there is no acute need for internal partitions. Beautifully lined “open plans” blend the living spaces into the landscape, removing the need for additional fences. Minimalist design, used by the authors, makes the entire space a platform for the creativity of its inhabitants and greatly reduces the cost of maintaining the building.
The idea for this non-trivial building came from the creators of the multidisciplinary company OYO / OPEN Y OFFICE, based in Ghent. The architecture, design and planning studio grew out of a desire to make each project unique. Her designers never start with using template options, but try to ask the right questions to come up with an original solution.
