The Eco-house by Paul Archer Design provides 2600 square meters of unprecedented natural beauty and comfort, allowing homeowners independence from modern civilization. It is skillfully designed with prefabricated earth-friendly building materials and green technologies and utilizes an array of renewable energy sources. The optimized site orientation makes the most of natural light and ventilation, while low embodied energy materials, such as wood and straw bale insulation, guarantee superior energy performance. Through sophisticated bioclimate design and on-site water harvesting and waste-water treatment, this dwelling enables occupants to live off the grid and self-sustainably.
The old, dilapidated building was replaced by a modern, squat, four-bedroom house. Its area is 200 m2. House Title – Green Orchard – translates as “orchard” and accurately describes both the location and the appearance of the small cottage.
The design of this eco-friendly building and the surrounding garden were designed with a specific goal in mind: to reduce energy consumption and demand. The wood stove is the only source of heat; the water comes from a 93-meter well; the solar thermal panels on the roof provide 80% of the heating.
