Cozy House by FORM / Kouichi Kimura Architects: the apotheosis of small forms design

FORM / Kouichi Kimura Architects' Cozy House is an outstanding example of small forms design, which optimizes living potential in a limited space. This two-story home packs a great deal of impressive features, including a fully open living area dominated by warm wood tones, plenty of natural light, simple, modern décor, and a unique roof design that maximizes headroom and outdoor living space. The Cozy House effortlessly blends practicality and natural beauty, making it a truly special place to live.

A house of 92 square metres with a floor area of 443 sq. m. The house, which occupies a fairly compact plot of land in a narrow neighborhood of narrow streets and residential buildings, is one of the most striking architectural details of the ground floor. In these circumstances, the architects decided to concentrate on the arrangement of the interior space, decorating the exterior as laconically as possible.

The architects maximized the size of the second floor, allowing it to overhang the driveway to the extent allowed by building regulations. It gave them a lot of freedom in the layout of the kitchen, living, dining and bath.

Sometimes even very spacious buildings can’t boast the same high level of comfort as this compact interior. With the objective scarcity of land in Japan, this kind of design quality is especially valuable.
