Before Hitchcock turned his attention to the house, the building had been unused for four years. From the words of the current owner, it is known that the last edition was in 1959. After that, the school needed to be renovated, but the city had no money for it. The director noticed it during the shooting of another film, when he went to the beach.
In fact, thatâs how Leahâs mother also found the house. She wasnât a fan of the movie, she just saw a beautiful house and wanted to renovate it and live in it. Itâs no wonder – to this day itâs considered one of the most beautiful buildings in town, and it was built in 1873.
It probably does, but donât underestimate the contribution of the Taylor family either. When they first bought the building, it was completely unusable. The roof was leaking and, ironically, the entire second floor was occupied by birds. The film crew left piles of trash behind, no water, no electricity, not even a kitchen. The family spent every weekend renovating the building.
One of the most valuable finds was the teacherâs desk. It wasnât in very good condition, but after restoration it looks great in the long hallway.
Hitchcock movie posters ––itâs part of a collection that Lea collects. The room the director chose for filming is now the guest room. It is decorated not only with posters, but also with little pictures of crows.
In the center stands the teacher, Calvin Keithly. Although the photo was taken at the turn of the century before last, some say it still walks around. A tourist took a photo that allegedly shows the figure of his ghost on the second floor.
In fact, the horror movie shot here and the ghost in the photo are not the only scary stories, but just links in a chain of strange events that began to happen on the very first morning.
This title draws attention to the house. They even filmed an episode about it for a show about supernatural phenomena, but Leah is used to it. Interest in the film, like in the house, is still strong.
However, Taylor sometimes gives tours of the house and sends the funds raised to charity. Also in the house are often held various events. It has already been a gallery and a restaurant.
Leahâs son doesnât really want to live in a house like this, but he clearly remains in the minority.
What horror movie is the old house reconstruction inspired by?
