Unique residence De Wet 34

Today’s visitors get to know the De Wet 34, a luxury residential complex, which was designed by the South African architectural firm SAOTA and the interior design studio OKHA Interiors. Home completed in 2012.

However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and find out what the architects and designers themselves say about their work and what the result was: “As a place for the construction of the future home was chosen the area on the coast of Bantry Bay in Cape Town, on the steep slopes of Mount Lion’s Head. It’s not a random choice, but rather a clear one: the endless blue Atlantic Ocean and the colorful exotic nature all around can’t leave anyone indifferent.

Clients came to the architectural firm’s office with specific ideas and a vision for their future dream home. In their vision it should be a modern mansion with all conveniences, but also a real refuge, one might say, a temple where everyone can feel completely safe and where warmth and comfort reign. The property features an open floor plan with clearly delineated areas. The exterior façade is minimalist, with mahogany and slate gray mahogany on the street side. From the moment you cross the threshold of the house you enter a spacious courtyard which in turn leads to a gallery.

The sheer scale of the building, the breathtaking views, the unique roughness of the walls and the stunning décor all add up to a work of art that will be handed down from generation to generation. The common living room, which is located in the mountainous part of the garden in the courtyard, is more like a “cocoon” – a room hidden from view. On the sea side is the living room combined with the dining room.
The peculiarity of the interior design of this room is a large wall with a fireplace decorated with relief plaster, which contributes to an atmosphere of comfort and coziness, and stunning views cause a feeling of freedom and infinite space. This area, overlooking the vast ocean, is composed of concrete and stone. On one side of the building is a massive bar made of rough-hewn granite, weighing five tons. On the other side is a terrace with a swimming pool, which gives access to the courtyard garden. The bedrooms, guest rooms and recreation room are on the lower levels.

A small amount of original furniture, soft colors, natural materials, simplicity and elegance of the minimalist style in the design of the house – all this, on the one hand, creates a feeling of harmony and comfort, and on the other hand – a real emotional shock from how everything fits together perfectly and how skillfully and subtly chosen. And, of course, the stunning views of the ocean’s blue expanse, rocky mountains and endless sky remain first rate.”.
