A stationary brick barbecue in the country can be built with your own hands without a lot of money and labor. The heated brick gives off heat gradually, it becomes possible to darken the cooking dish over the fire for deep heating. On a brick grill, meat and fish are tender, tasty and aromatic.

What foundation to choose

A simple barbecue – the structure is relatively lightweight, so you can choose a shallow foundation. It is a monolithic reinforced slab on a sand cushion. How thick to make a pillow depends on the properties of the soil directly under the barbecue.

If this is a dense soil unsaturated with water, which does not have heaving properties (increase in volume when freezing), then the sandy base can be 20 cm.In the case of loose collapsible soil, it is necessary to compact this layer, or replace it with compacted sand.

The heaving layer will bulge out the structure, so the sand is laid to a depth below the level of freezing of the soil (calculated). Such soils include loams, sandy loams, silty sands saturated with water. Sand for the pillow is laid in layers of 15-20 cm with compulsory tamping or spilling it with water.

The size of the foundation slab is taken 10 cm wider than the size of the barbecue around the entire perimeter (1.1×2 m). For this construction, concrete M200 (B15) is sufficient. The concrete mixture is prepared in the proportion: cement M400 – 1 part + crushed stone or gravel with a particle size of less than 30 mm – 4 parts + medium-sized sand with an admixture of clay, organic and mica particles less than 10% – 2 parts.

The volume of concrete for the foundation is:

Approximate consumption of ingredients by weight per 1 m³ concrete:

1. Cement – 325 kg.
2. Sand – 1300 kg.
3. Crushed stone – 1300 kg.
4. Water – 205 l.

Estimated consumption for reinforced concrete foundation:

1. Cement – 150 kg.
2. Sand – 612 kg.
3. Crushed stone (gravel) – 612 kg.

The foundation is reinforced with a mesh made of class AIII O 10 reinforcement with a step of 100 mm. Reinforcement mesh is laid on top and bottom of a concrete pad with a protective layer of 20 mm (distance from the foundation surface to the edge of the reinforcement).

The order of the foundation

For concrete work, the following tools will be required:

1. Concrete mixer or concrete mixing container.
2. Concrete shovel.
3. Trowel for leveling the laid mixture.
4. Deep vibrator or manual narrow rammer.
5. Master OK.

Then formwork from boards (spruce, pine, larch, birch, linden) is installed according to the size of the foundation. The concrete mix can be made in a concrete mixer. The total volume of the foundation allows making concrete by hand. First, dry ingredients are mixed (cement, sand, crushed stone or gravel), then water is added in portions.

It is better to place the concrete at one time to ensure a uniform hardening process throughout the structure. The ramming of the freshly laid mixture is carried out with manual narrow rammers or with a deep vibratory compactor. This increases the strength of the concrete by removing the formed air bubbles..

It is possible to remove the formwork only when the danger of breaking the integrity of the concrete structure has passed. During the hardening of the concrete mixture, the necessary care is provided – moistening in heat in dry weather and covering with heat-insulating material at temperatures below +5 ° С.

This mode is maintained until the concrete gains 70% strength. This amounts to approximately two weeks. Concrete gains full strength after 28 days at a temperature of +15 ° C. You can start the construction of the barbecue only after the concrete has completely hardened.

Consumption of materials for the grill

The masonry is made of ordinary clay bricks on a cement-sand mortar. Brick for structures in contact with fire must be selected of high quality – well-fired, without cracks and defects. The use of fireclay bricks will significantly extend the service life of the barbecue.

Important! Unfired, silicate, hollow bricks cannot be used for laying stoves and barbecues.

In total, 230 bricks are required for the grill. The volume of the masonry will be 0.45 m³. The structure of the barbecue will be operated in the open air, so the mortar for masonry is made of cement-sand. The composition is prepared on the basis of C: P – 1: 3 by volume.

Material consumption per 1 m³ solution:

1. Cement – 370 kg.
2. Sand – 1410 kg.

In total, the entire brazier will require approximately 0.12 m³ solution. Based on this, you can calculate the amount of cement (370 x 0.12 = 44.5 kg) and sand (1410 x 0.12 = 170 kg).

Ordering

From the first to the fifth row, the walls of the barbecue are laid out 1/2 brick thick.

In the sixth row, the brick is installed on an edge with an overhang on both lateral and middle sides. The back wall also involves laying bricks on the edge according to the order. This protrusion is necessary for installing the steel sheet under the coal and the countertop on the right side of the barbecue.

Starting from the seventh row, the walls of the left side of the barbecue are laid out according to the orders. In the tenth row, the brick, as in the sixth, is installed on the edge. This ledge serves as a support for the barbecue grill. From the eleventh to the thirteenth row, the laying of the walls of the left side of the hearth continues.
