What do you most often repair? I’m sure everyone will have their own list, but each one will certainly indicate the door. We use the door most often, and not only we. Neighbors, relatives, guests…
We place a great responsibility on the door for the safety of our property and family hearth when we are away. And if we are at home, she protects our peace from the encroachments of external natural factors, as well as unwanted guests, such as mother-in-law. That is why the door must be serviced and, if necessary, repaired. After all, she does so much for us, now it’s our turn to fix the breakdown.
How to repair a loose box
How to repair? It’s very simple! We need to strengthen the box. It makes sense, isn’t it? And now for more details. To begin with, it is advisable to align the box with wooden wedges. They are hammered between the wall and the box. You can check the verticality using a building level or, if this is not at hand, a simple plumb line, consisting of a rope and a load tied to it. Now you can pin. We drill a hole so deep that the drill goes into the wall by at least 5 cm. Drive in a wooden cork and nail it in. There must be at least three mounts.
Ideally, slats of suitable thickness can be driven in between the wall and the box, and the remaining space can be sealed with putty or special construction foam. Now you can nail platbands.
If the door creaks
Sooner or later, any door owner faces this. It gets on the nerves, so it is impossible to endure for a long time. I think it’s no secret to anyone that in this case you just need to grease the loops with pork fat or machine oil. You can also use a pencil lead. It will change the lubricant for a long time.
If the door hits the floor
The first thing that can be done in such cases is to check the fastening of the hinges and the verticality of the box. If everything is in order, we will do otherwise. Fix a piece of sandpaper on the floor and sharply open and close the door several times. If it does not help, then the door will have to be removed and the lower edge slightly trimmed.
I’m curious to know if there are any specific steps or techniques that can be followed to fix a door on my own. Can anyone provide some helpful advice or guidelines for repairing a door without having to call a professional? Any recommended tools or suggested methods?
