Welcome sun and space lovers to the pages of the Beautiful Country Home portal. In Australia, a family-friendly house is built for an undulating terrain landscaping – hills and low mountains.
Okura House is located in North Shore, Oakland, on a hilltop and is the first project Bossley Architects From a series designed for this area of the mainland, where the climate is warm, the sun is great and the ocean is just a few kilometers away.
Stone flagstone paved area in front of the central facade. There are tables and benches for relaxing. A large fireplace is attached to the end of the house, which also serves as a decorative feature. Rough-looking natural stone and sleek, glossy metal create contrast and a combination of strong elements. A large awning shelters from the sun and, rare in this area of the mainland, rain.
Long stone columns protruding from the wall to the outside, serving several functions. This is a roof support and rigid wall base. They protect the living and dining areas from the sun and wind blowing from the sea, and also hide what goes on inside the house from prying eyes of the neighbors.
The edge of the slab site and the table area are lined with pebbles. Such gaps are not just decoration, but drainage. Water drains through the pebbles when it rains, without destroying the lawn or the edge of the slabs.
Pool protected on all sides from wind and prying eyes. On the top side is a wooden fence that also serves as a courtyard fence. Dark glass is also used.
LED lights on the ledge among the plants create the illusion of fire and illuminate the property at night. The combination of smooth light surfaces and dark textured surfaces attracts its contrast and harmony, as all materials are natural – stone. A lacquered wooden lath bulkhead complements the design.
Is there a specific company or architect that specializes in designing large glass-framed country houses?
