New addition to the family requires more living space. Take a look at how the designers of the renowned P8 Architecten did it.
A young couple lived in their home in the historic center of Leer, Belgium. Parents realised with the birth of an heir that they needed more living space. A fortunate coincidence was the house next door for sale. Thatās what the young family bought. The existing house has been demolished to create a free space of 56 square meters.
On the second floor, the living rooms are organized, and between them a vertical wall of living greenery. This surprising and simple way to create the feeling of a small courtyard.
Modern, functional kitchen in contrasting colors, practical and comfortable.
Itās hard to say anything definite about the parentsā room. Apparently, perfect cleanliness is important to the homeowner, not just in the literal sense of the word. White is of course a calming color, but its total dominance in the room is not exactly logical. First of all, itās difficult to maintain perfect cleanliness. And secondly, itās a little boring without bright colors.
If thereās too much depth of color, itās in the bathroom. The rich yellow mixed with white is shocking. Although, perhaps, this is the effect that the authors of the project wanted to achieve. Probably an important element of awakening for someone in the family.
In conclusion, we want to say that the family perfectly realized the solution to the problem of lack of living space. The interiors are light and airy. Intelligent and comfortable layout. Some of the design touches are individual and customized.
This townhouse design seems to perfectly blend contemporary architecture with the charm of the historic district it resides in. I wonder how the architects ensured that the design preserves the essence of the areaās heritage while incorporating modern elements? Did they face any challenges in balancing these two aspects?
