Miniature Rock – Tapered House for a Bruce Lee fan by Index Architecture, Shunda area, China

The client commissioned a small vacation home. He planned to place here his collection gathered in memory of Bruce Lee, whose family history also originated from these places. The trapezoidal structure tapers from west to east and measures 670 sq.. It was the last plot in the block where such a structure could be built.

The local terrain is characterized by a steep drop of more than 9 meters near the southern edge of the site, creating miniature “cliffs. The unusual building blends peacefully in with the two-story detached cottages and modern high-rises that line the same street.

The conical structure combines recreation rooms and a gallery where slit windows let in sunlight and diffuse it throughout the space.

Next to the veranda is delightful studio. There is a bedroom as well as a living room with direct access to the garden. Its openness partly balances the privacy, the inaccessibility of the long, somewhat heavy wall-fence. The exterior material, according to the designers, could not be better symbolized by Bruce Lee’s fundamental belief that “no rule is a rule”.
