The architects from SOUP Architects Ltd have explained that the building was built in the seventeenth century as a stable and in the seventies it became part of a house called Ham House.
Another renovation was carried out at the end of 1990 when Foster+Partners refurbished a section of the house. Keeping the main oak load-bearing structure, they added glass and metal to turn a two-storey house into a three-storey.

The designers kept the solid wood structure of the building. Craftsmen also restored the beautiful chimney on the south side of the house and many other authentic details, including the original fireplace of the former smithy. It now decorates the living room.
