Our dear readers, we invite you to visit a modern cottage for the local middle class. Australian architects from Middap Ditchfield Architects completed the design of a two-story building in 2009, which is located on the sunny coast of the small resort town of Peregian Beach in Queensland,.
The summer house made of concrete and glass is the embodiment of the designers’ concept. Natural laminate flooring and a wood siding facade add to the coziness. Living, kitchen and dining room on the first floor. The second bedroom and bathroom.
The carefully selected designer furniture is arranged according to the principle of harmonious series, the eye glides from the smaller items to the larger ones in turn, without stopping. The house has plenty of open space.
The living room is separated from the generous terrace by glass sliding doors. The barbecue area is equipped with a summer dining area and comfortable trestle beds. A low partition made of thick frosted glass separates the sitting area from the swimming pool with a wide gap. And the pool, as is now fashionable, is housed in a concrete bowl overhanging the sharp slope of the hill – offering a stunning view of the Coral Sea shore.
Since the second floor is smaller than the first floor, the vacant roof area is equipped with another recreational area.
The interior is bright, with high ceilings and panoramic windows to let in natural light. In some of the rooms that face the facade one of the walls was replaced by a continuous glass panel. The color scheme of the interior is made in harmonious alternating rich white, cream and beige tones.
It’s worth noting that this Australian resort lodge has a number of advantages related to its cost-effectiveness and sustainability. Solar panels installed on the roof generate enough solar energy for lighting.
A unique way to accumulate and purify rainwater allows owners of the house to get a valuable natural resource for technical purposes: filling the pool, laundry, washing dishes and car. During the warm season the house is cooled by a special ventilation system, so you don’t have to spend too much money on air conditioning.
Engineers originally designed a tiered lighting system. In the evening the guests can enjoy the magical effect of the decorative lighting of the entire perimeter of the roof and the terrace by the seating area.
What are some of the key design features and sustainable elements implemented by Middap Ditchfield Architects in this modern cottage? Also, how does its location on the shores of the Coral Sea contribute to the overall appeal and unique aspects of this architectural project?
