A handmade wonder on a mountainside or creative house from JOHO Architecture, Japan

The Curving House

Gray brick exterior. The masonry work was carried out using special techniques: the angles of the brickwork were changed slightly, so that the walls shimmer in the sunlight like fish scales. Some of the building material used in this project received a silver water-repellent coating. The other part was left as is to enhance the effect of the contrasts in texture. The variation in the surface of the facade is designed to bring the whole ensemble together with nature in a variety of ways. The resulting parking space serves as a natural opening for air ventilation.

The summer breeze that comes down from the mountains circulates around the building, thereby reducing the heat load. Also each room has windows for cross ventilation. The staircase to the north serves as a buffer from northwest winds during the winter to minimize heat loss.
South-facing front windows let in enough sunlight in winter to make the most of the sun's energy.

Inside, a new technical interpretation of the traditional interior. The spatial flow was inspired by the ventilation of Korean houses. Second floor: Open living room, bedroom and kitchen can be separated in various ways, with sliding doors.
It is a modern interpretation of a dwelling that can be used either as one large room or as small individual rooms.
