During the financial crisis, due to the depreciation of money, former USSR depositors lost part of their property, which was in savings. The collapse of the economy, additional monetary emissions led to higher prices, hyperinflation and the loss of nominal purchasing power of household deposits. The population’s money remained frozen in savings accounts.

What is the return of deposits of Sberbank of the USSR

In order to partially reimburse funds lost due to inflation, compensation is provided for deposits of 1991 in 2018. Such events are a continuation of the state program implemented by the Government of the Russian Federation. Phased reimbursement of savings began in 1996. First, among the recipients of compensation payments socially vulnerable categories of the population prevailed – representatives of the older age group with disabilities, holders of USSR Certificates.

Compensation of savings is carried out based on the real possibilities of the state treasury, and does not imply full compensation for losses from the depreciation of savings. Starting from 2018, the Ministry of Finance plans to annually allocate 5.5 billion rubles from the federal budget to finance the program to partially compensate for the burnt deposits of Sberbank in 1991. Coefficient value Deposit validity period Savings Account Closing Date
1 from 1991 to 1996 or to the present 1996 or unclosed
0.9 1991-1995 1995
0.8 1991-1994 1994
0.7 1991-1993 1993
0.6 1991-1992 1992

Calculation formula

You can find out the final amount of the reimbursement due when taking into account all the determining factors:

  • the age of the recipient for whom a double or triple increase is provided;
  • the period of storage of funds after 1991, which involves multiplying by a factor from 0.6 to 1;
  • amount of provisional compensation paid.

C = 3xOxK-P.

For both formulas:

C – the amount of compensation,

О – balance of funds in the savings account as of June 20, 1991;
